A slightly smaller turnout than usual for Double Lateral was offset by an enthusiastic
response to this very interesting concert. The performers very generously spent time
at the interval explaining how their instruments worked to a number of the audience who'd
gathered by the stage to get a closer look.
The last get together this calendar year is the Waikanae Music Society's Annual General
Meeting, followed by afternoon tea and then our special 'extra' concert.

Would you like to join the Committee?
If you are interested in contributing to our very successful society, we'd love to hear from you. I have been on the Committee for about eight years and find it a pleasure to be a part of. If you are interested, give me or any other committee member a ring and we will tell you more about it.
Many Members of the Society will have heard 16 year old violinist Blythe playing over the years - as a seven year old with his brother Thomas at the Student Musician Concerts, with Rafaella Garlick-Grice and James Pearson in the Triple Treat Trio, at the Schools' Chamber Contest finals, and most recently, as soloist with the Wellington Chamber Orchestra at Paekakariki in March this year. Blythe's musical life begun at age 6 under the tutelage of Lois Bognuda at the Kapiti Music Centre and he is now studying with Vesa-Matti Leppanen, Concertmaster of the NZSO. He gained his LTCL when he was 14 years old, with a mark of 95%. This year he became the youngest ever winner of the New Zealand School of Music (previously the Victoria University) Concerto Competition and in August he attended the Salzburg Sommerakademie under Yair Kless. He is currently preparing for various competitions.
Amber Rainey is 18 and currently studies performance piano under Diedre Irons at Victoria University. She began piano at age four and earlier this year gained her L.Mus.A. with distinction. Last year she performed in the Michael Monaghan Young Musicians' concert and has been the Hutt Valley nominee for the National Young Performers Award twice. Last year she won the 16-18 age group section of the Wellington Piano Plus festival. In 2003 she was accepted into the first round of the Paekakariki Piano Competition and is preparing again for the competition this year. She wants to be a chamber musician and a conductor.

The last gathering of the year is to be held on 18 November at the McIvers' (51 Winara Ave) and it's a 'bring a plate' evening. If you are interested in participating, please contact Aldous or Frances on 904 1942.
This group meets at 7.30 pm on the second Wednesday and at 2 pm on the last Friday of each month. This is an enjoyable opportunity to play a wide range of organ music, meeting in the homes of fellow organ enthusiasts. For further information, please phone Garth Cullen on 293 7376.
